Granted, it’s in Nepal, but let’s take good news where we see it.

Remember a few years ago when the Nepalese crown prince got drunk, grabbed a rifle, and went Scarface on almost the entire royal family? (I have a chapter about it in the next book; it’s a gripping Romeo & Juliet story, only without a happy ending.)

The indirect result (mostly because the survivor who took over was completely incompetent), beginning today: a UN-brokered peace deal, the likely end of a bloody civil war, and the possible impending abolition of the monarchy in favor of parliamentary democracy.

With Maoists, yes. Not saying it’s perfect. And not saying that massacres usually work out like this. Um, no.

But still. Somebody somewhere on this tiny planet is putting down the goddam guns. So that’s nice.
