Books I'm Getting

"Brave... irreverent... charges into the thick of the globe's myriad simmering wars... hilariously relaxed."
New York Observer

"Only Bob could make a user’s guide to our increasingly hostile world this absorbing, this breezy, and—ultimately—this hopeful.”
Ken Jennings, author of Brainiac: Adventures in the Curious, Competitive, Compulsive World of Trivia Buffs

John Hodgman, author of The Areas of My Expertise
and correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

"All three [presidential] candidates should read all three of these [recommended] books, but McCain gets first crack at Bob Harris's "Who Hates Whom“... a lighthearted overview of the insurrections and civil wars in the world today."

If you haven't seen the ads yet, you will... a group called "Amend For Arnold" is running TV ads advocating a change in the U.S. constitution, specifically so the Gropenator can become president.

I had no idea this was such a burning issue among the grass roots.  Apparently I've missed all those checkstand conversations where working-class people are standing around trying to figure out how to tackle severe societal problems... and then decide that allowing a semi-articulate serial molester to rule us all would make everything so much better.

So of course I couldn't resist visiting their website... and it's strangely called, apparently at the last minute, "Amend For Arnold & Jen."

Who the hell is Jen?

As of this writing, there is actually no explanation whatsover on the site.  None.

No pictures, no mentions, nothing.

I assumed it was probably some cross-dressing Scottish caber-tosser who likes to rub himself on farm animals, since, well, that would be an equal level of qualification for office.

Nope.  Turns out, after considerable Googling, to be Jennifer Granholm, the Canadian-born governor of Michigan.  Who, I add respectfully, does not toss cabers.  At least in public.

So.  Nice figleaf.  Find a woman.  A woman Democrat, no less.  And then use her.

Gee.  Arnold using a Democratic woman to gain power and make himself appear respectable.  Hmm.  Never saw that one coming.

I'd prefer the caber-tosser, fur-encrusted zipper and all, thank you.
