A couple of science sites I like:

Live Science brings a joyful tabloid goofiness to fascinating stuff. Current headlines include

    Early Earth Not So Hellish, New Study Suggests

    Scientists Clueless over Sun's Effect on Earth

    Study Reveals Baseball's Great Clutch Hitters

a category which includes Frank Duffy of the 1970s Cleveland Indians, who drove in something like one run a week, but dang, it was a hell of an important run.

Also fond of Eurekalert, which has a frequently-updated Breaking News page which is fun to glance at, just to see what humanity stumbled into today.

At the moment, the top stories seem to be mostly about yeast genes. OK, granted, sometimes you gotta scroll to find the good stuff... ahh. Turns out when it comes to taking care of its people, the state of Kansas is way, way behind.

Somehow that's not a giant shock.
