OK, this one is only going to truly amuse a few family members and close friends who actually met my Dad.  But come with me on this one.

This particular photo from Nordens Ark, a Swedish foundation for the preservation of endangered species, seemed weirdly familiar...

... and then when I realized what I was recognizing, I laughed out loud.

My Dad was at heart a really bright and gentle fellow, but he was never more than about 140 pounds and had to work a physically-demanding job surrounded by much larger and often less-friendly beings.  So eventually he developed a habitual facial expression that wasn't quite grinning at you yet... but seemed to be studying you to see if it was safe to begin.

That's what I was recognizing.  Plus, he also had a shock of reddish hair and big ears.

Trust me on this: if my Dad came back in pudu form, this is exactly what he would look like.

Yes, I realize this is a very strange thing to post.  But as long as I was laughing about it myself... by sharing this, I figure maybe a few other people who knew my Dad might bring up a happy memory of the guy for themselves.
