More bad news

Two more grim hits from over the weekend — stuff you may have already seen, but in case you missed it:

According to Colin Powell’s former chief of staff, Iran made a major peace overture in 2003, one the State Dept. considered worth pursuing… until Dick Cheney’s office blew it off completely.

And the Defense Department believes that upcoming trials for Gitmo detainees can fairly include hearsay and coerced testimony, including admissions made under torture if made before December 30, 2005, if a judge deems said confessions reliable.

So that’s all swell.
