Friday pudublogging: Vote Pudu in ’08

He’s tanned.

He’s rested.

He’s very, very tiny.

Pudu.  For A Puduier America.

PS — Pudu cleans up pretty good, doesn’t he?

PPS — If you’re new to the site, the pudu is the world’s most adorable ungulate.  And apologies to all who missed the little guys for the last couple of weeks.  The pudus were all in their enclosures, too sad about Katrina to come out.  Four trotters up to Richard for the smile-inducing artwork.

Since you guys love penguins so much…

Here’s a tiny snippet from some footage I took through night-vision goggles on a beach in Tasmania last year:

These are fairy penguins coming ashore in pitch darkness on the neck of Bruny Island.  Hundreds of Mom and Dad penguins spend the whole day gathering food out at sea , then after nightfall minimize their exposure to predators by storming the beach Normandy-style to bring home the day’s haul for the young waiting in their nests.

This is absolutely fantastic to watch.

So here’s the biggest snip I can give you without totally crushing my bandwidth.
