Friday pudublogging: Napoleon invades New York

The Queens Zoo, actually.

What the article doesn’t mention is that this little guy actually is the reincarnation of the French emperor.  Only a little smaller.

Fortunately, New Jersey and Connecticut needn’t ready their own ungulates for battle.  Scaling down Napoleon’s ambitions to pudu size, his conquests probably won’t extent much further than, oh, Astoria.

Jackson Heights residents, however, should prepare for the Reign of Pudu.

High school romantic relations, diagrammed

Researchers have created a visual map of the romantic interactions at one US high school:

The labcoats figured there would be more connections, and especially a few more highly-connected, er, hubs — hey, there’s a new epithet — but nope.  There’s one guy with eight female connections, and one female with six, but those are statistical outliers.  And note that the isolated pair occurred 63 times, so it’s visually way under-represented here.

I doubt the diagram is complete, for obvious reasons.  But still.  Pretty cool.

Spooky pics of North Korea

From Russia, a peek behind the curtain: empty streets, dilapidated cement structures, and lots of giant statuary.

Also spooky: the site’s auto-generated content links.  Roll over the word "democratic," and you’ll be offered the chance to meet "attractive democratic singles in USA & Canada."

Which is the main reason I’d visit a montage of pictures of North Korea.  To meet hot babes.

Bush didn’t know what he knew about what he saw but didn’t see

Or something like that.

Fox News anchor / White House spokesman (as if there’s any real difference) Tony Snow said yesterday that the president was "certainly" aware of the deplorable conditions for returning vets at Walter Reed.

Today, Snow claimed that Bush had no idea what was going on.

Asked directly if Bush would personally discuss the issue of how returning veterans are treated, Snow’s reply was simple:
